It Doesn’t Really Matter WHAT You Sit On

If your muscles determine where your bones are, it’s your brain that tells your muscles what to do. You can have horrible posture while sitting on a $600.00 office chair if your brain doesn’t understand where “Neutral Pelvis” is. I’m not a big fan of sitting on an exercise ball because you cannot sense your sitting bones on such a soft surface. Your butt bones tell your brain where you are in space. If you cannot sense them, your lower back muscles can’t relax.
I lost the sense of my left sitting bone for about 30 years due to a serious back and hip injury. I literally sat most of my adult life on my right ischial tuberosity. I deformed the seat cushion in my car! Now that my pelvis has returned to good alignment and I’ve re-trained my muscle memory, I can find both sitting bones even sitting on a marshmallow :-}
My new clinic stool re-taught me this lesson. Watch this short clip to see an example of how what’s happening in your BRAIN is more important than how much you spend on a chair.
